19th May 2007: It was a joy to see so many families in church when we held two Masses for the First Holy Communion of our children.
Mrs. Marie Wallace and Mrs. Madelene Ward prepared the children in school for the sacrament, whilst in the parish they were prepared by Mrs. Angela Clough. In total 51 children received the sacrament at the two masses. Afterwards, thanks to Cathy Rigg and Toni Abakahan the children celebrated with a Breakfast in the Parish Centre. If any one is prepared to send general photographs in to the presbytery then we will put them on the website without names.
Closely following on the heels of this occasion the teenagers of the parish received the Sacrament of Confirmation. The teenagers have been prepared in their final stages by the team of catechists, Breed Fields & Gerard, Dawn Crawford & Maggie McMahon, Mary Dyer, Margaret Boyle & Fr. Nick, Barbara Ward & Michael Murphy, Les Arch & Josie Cromwell. On the evening of Tuesday 22nd May Bishop Brian Noble was the celebrant when 37 candidates from St. Joseph's Parish, joined by 8 from St. Werburgh & St. Laurence Parish, 6 from St. Michael & All Angels and 2 from St. Peterís, were confirmed. Again many hundreds packed the church and then into the Parish Centre following the Mass to be fed by our catering corps.
The parish wish to thank all those who provided the music and singing on these occasions, but not forgetting everyone who helped with hard labour, cleaning the church, adorning it with flowers, preparing the service sheets, and ushering to enable everything to go off so well. Any photographs that do come in will be added to this page.
